Regulations defining Process Safety Management (PSM) are quite extensive, but for use in this article we refer to as the "Elements of Management Process Security. "SMP elements interact and depend on one another. In other words, it is possible to satisfy the requirements of one element without considering its effect on others. PSM programs often include a dozen major elements. The OSHA standard, most companies in the United States continues to contain fourteen.

This article focuses on the mechanical element of Integrity. The mechanical integrity is the most frequently cited for violation of OSHA inspectors who perform audits of the plant sites.

The lists of OSHA, regulates, and publishes information on highly hazardous chemicals. If the sites of the plant use these chemicals listed and the quantities of these chemicals exceed the thresholds set by OSHA listed, then utilization process to become "critical process" and must be covered by a mechanical integrity program.

A program integrity mechanics is to ensure that all equipment, piping, instrumentation, electrical and other physical elements in a unit, system or process the unit are designed, constructed and maintained to the rules, and the possibility of failure of one of these systems is minimized inspections using appropriate techniques and frequency for the system.

Mechanical Integrity receives considerable attention because of the time, expense and resources needed to implement these systems. An integral part of a mechanical integrity program is a process of risk analysis or a PHA. PHA must be performed before proceeding with the program. The PHA determine which parts of the plant are "critical process" and should be included in the program. The program is directed generally within a system based on software on a computer or network of facilities in using the system. The software must be configured to store the history of the equipment necessary and corrective measures taken to comply with current regulations.

Most professional managers of industries are already familiar with mechanical integrity and function. Often, the initial configuration and integration of these systems is performed by qualified specialists of contract which may simplify the implementation and make the programs easy to understand, and in the case of an audit, ensure compliance.

These qualified specialists can also deploy programs that show what the team needs to continue and the recommended frequency of such inspection. These programs may also include recommendations from the manufacturer, ASTM and API recommended methods for the inspection. Part of the initial configuration of the program is to gather the necessary information and present it in a logical manner for all processes, ventilation systems and the services of an integrated industrial complex, without gaps in functional systems.

Once the mechanical integrity program implemented correctly, and if a compliance audit occur, the auditors will have access to materials developed to date for review / her. These manuals show the processes through flowcharts and engineering required elements are included in critical systems. The necessary elements also have their risk priority. Documents also develop control to keep the current system, both in printed manuals and computer systems.

Many of the resources, such as books and software systems available to managers to ensure compliance with this element of mechanical integrity. Application in a timely matter usually requires multiple resources.
